Writers’ Group

Aynho Writers started as a writing group in 1997.  We have met on the second Saturday of the month ever since, although membership has changed regularly since then.  Members bring a piece of writing to each meeting and we read round and discuss each piece.  The facilitator sets a homework but there is no need for members to stick to it if there is something they would rather read, or if the homework has left them with writers’ block.  Members write about a wide range of themes and topics.  A variety of poetry is read out; everything from comic verse to spiritually inspiring thoughts and lovely seasonal descriptions.  Likewise, prose pieces can be life writing, fiction or an extract from a current project.

Once or twice a year we hold workshops to stimulate the imagination and experiment with writing styles.  Most recently, we visited Upton House for inspiration beyond the confines of the village hall.  We produce an annual anthology of our writing and as well as the usual sales, we donate copies to Katherine House Hospice in the hope that they will be able to sell them as a modest contribution to their funds.  We also have an annual Christmas lunch.  Several members have had books and poems published and many of us are currently working on projects of one sort or another.  If you have an interest in joining you are welcome to come along to one or two sessions to see what we do.  Be assured we are a very friendly group who aim to encourage each other in our writing.  Examples of our work are available to read on this website.

Meetings:  Aynho Village Hall, second Saturday of the month 10.00AM – 12.30PM.  There is a small annual membership fee and a payment of £2.50 at each meeting once you are a member.
