St Michael’s Church

At the heart of the historic village is St Michael’s Church and it has been on the site since the reign of Edward III in the 14th Century. The Church is an active church with an above average size of congregation.   The Rector, the Reverend Suzanne Cooper, who lives in the new Rectory a few hundred yards away in Aynho Court, conducts or organises services on most Sundays of the month. All are very much welcome. It is a beautiful and architecturally different church – much loved and treasured by the village as it has been for nearly seven centuries.

The Church has been open for individual private prayer since 14th June and everyone is most welcome.  Now that the Government has lifted the restrictions  Sunday services will start again on 5th and 12th July – Morning Worship and no Communion service;  we hope the latter will follow in due course.  Notices are displayed which give the days of the week and the opening times. The churchyard is always open.

In addition to the Sunday services for the community,  baptism, confirmations, marriages or blessings, funerals and thanksgiving services can be held as required – but they need careful planning and coordination to meet the constraints of the COVID19 restrictions and keep all involved safe.  You can read about the latest rules and regulations on the Church of England’s COVID19 website.

All services in the Church are limited to a maximum number of 30 under the new restrictions from 4th July.  About 30 is the normal parish attendance at St Michael’s Church so we will have to create a list of attendees – and also make records of attendances for COVID19 track and trace reasons.  Please read the current notice to see how you register to attend one of the services.”

Please use the car park at the end of Church Walk or, if you are blue badge holder,  please feel free to park down the end of Church Walk by the church gates if there is no ongoing service.
