St Michael’s Church

At the heart of the historic village is St Michael’s Church and it has been on the site since the reign of Edward III in the 14th Century. The Church is an active church with an above average size of congregation.   The Rector, the Reverend Suzanne Cooper, who lives in the new Rectory a few hundred yards away in Aynho Court, conducts or organises services on most Sundays of the month. All are very much welcome. It is a beautiful and architecturally different church – much loved and treasured by the village as it has been for nearly seven centuries.

The Church was closed during lockdown as with all places of worship but reopened for individual private prayer on 14th June and for Sunday services on 5th July – with attendances limited by social distancing measures.  It is now mandatory to wear face coverings in Church services. For administrative purposes please see the Notices displayed which give more detail.  Although the opening times of the Church are restricted the churchyard is always open for access to graves and memorials.

In addition to the Sunday services for the community,  baptism, confirmations, marriages or blessings, funerals and thanksgiving services can be held as required – but they need careful planning and coordination to meet the constraints of the COVID19 restrictions and keep all involved safe.  You can read about the latest rules and regulations on the Church of England’s COVID19 website.

All services in the Church are limited by safe distancing.  We have enough capacity for our normal parish attendance at St Michael’s Church so if you are from outside the parish, or simply visiting Aynho, and wish to attend our services we ask you to “book a place” so we can just keep an eye on the numbers and make sure we do not go over capacity – and unsafely for everyone. Please read the current notice to see how you register to attend one of the services. We do keep a records of attendances at each Service for COVID19 track and trace reasons

Please use the car park at the end of Church Walk or, if you are blue badge holder,  please feel free to park down the end of Church Walk by the church gates if there is no ongoing service.
