Aynho Long Walk: 31st July 2014

We were pleased to welcome four walkers new to the Aynho walks today.  It was very warm and close as we set out down Portway towards Souldern. We reached the stream that separates the two parishes and crossed into the pasture where we usually see sheep. Today the whole flock lay in the shade of a large tree, obviously too hot to graze in the sunshine. We emerged opposite Souldern Manor turned towards the village centre and then took the road on the right which curves round the southern border of the village. The track runs uphill towards the Nancy Bowles Wood. From the top we turned off the Foxhill track and took the freshly cleared path past the llama farm. Two smallish brown llamas grazed in the field by the path. At the road junction where the path emerges we turned towards Souldern along the road. Back in the village we took Church Lane, passed the church and walked on taking the narrow path beside the sewage works and so re-joined the Portway and returned to the Pavilion. The lemon drizzle cake was just reward, although the walk was a little shorter this week at 4.5 miles.
