Aynho Long Walk: 10th July 2014

Only seven walkers today to enjoy the lovely sunshine. We took the footpath from the old wartime observation post down to Lower Walton Grounds. The views as we crossed the large field on the hill were as good as they’ve ever been. Very clear to Deddington church tower, Kraft Foods and the M40 crossing the ridge. At Lower  Walton Grounds we took the valley track  to Charlton and turned up along the clear path cut through the wheat field towards the old stone pits. The meadow that covers them was deep in wild grasses with a track cut through to the stile. We were soon in the village and walked down past the Rose & Crown to the bottom of the hill where we took the path that leads up through Rainsborough Camp and back along the ridge to Green Lane. Butterflies are prolific along here. Kay was back on duty in the pavilion as Anita was on holiday so the cakes were rather special and we all enjoyed the refreshments.
