Aynho Long Walk 5th November 2015

Fourteen of us set off today after a brief moment of silence in memory of Bernard Scott-Dennis, one of our original walkers, whose funeral was held this morning. In spite of the overcast sky and the feeling of rain hanging in the air we manged the whole walk without last week’s soaking. We crossed the village through the Black Path and Little Lane and continued down Station Road and Millers lane towards the ford. We took the field path round the ford, crossed the footbridge and continued on the climb up to Souldern Village. Everywhere was covered with the golden, red and brown of Autumn leaves. The stiles on the path that skirts round the back of Souldern were very slippery, but everyone made it safely to the lane up to Nancy Bowles Wood. The lane was another example of the autumn leaves underfoot, on the banks and still on the trees. The path alongside the Llama farm at Foxhill was clear and we soon reached the Fritwell road. The road took us back into Souldern and round past the Church and we soon on the Portway path back to the Pavilion. The walk was not so long today, only 5.4 miles and we were back in well under two hours.
