Aynho Long Walk: 5th March 2015

Twelve walkers set off in bright sunshine down the Portway path to Souldern.  We circled round the back of the village and reached the main street by The Fox. From there we took Wharf  Lane all the way down to the canal, passing over the particularly noisy motorway. As we approached the canal we could see a number of swans in the water meadows beyond. There was no water there but they seemed happy enough. Along the canal bank the moorings were nearly all occupied but there were only a few ducks, hopeful of something to eat. Out on the bridge at Aynho wharf we stood in the sunshine for a photo.  We passed the Great Western and the railway bridge and took the path alongside the railway viaduct before passing under the motor way and continuing on to Millers Lane. From there we climbed the hill to the village and were soon back at the pavilion. 6.7 miles in just under  2 hours.  it was good to see Anita back after her sad loss last week.
