Aynho Long Walk: 4th August 2016

We set off down Portway in warm but overcast weather and a strong breeze. There were eleven of us and four dogs. The dogs and walkers all behaved well in the field with cows and a bull. We all emerged unscathed at the top of Souldern and continued down Wharf lane to the canal. The farm yard at the wharf was very messy, but mainly dry so not too much of a problem. Not much traffic on the canal today. At the Great Western Arms we passed over and under the railway bridges and turned into the fields of Lower Aynho grounds. The entrance to the tunnel under the motorway was quite overgrown but we passed through it without problems and continued to the ford on Millers lane. That was flowing under the road so we walked across and up Millers lane to Station Road. It was on Millers Lane that a sudden shower hit us. Fortunately it was very quickly over so we were able to finish the walk in the dry and sit outside for the usual welcome refreshments.
