Aynho Long Walk: 18th August 2016

We were pleased to welcome two walkers joining us from Weston this week. Fifteen of us set off in pleasantly cool weather down Portway and across to Souldern. We took the meadow across to the western end of the village with views across the valley to Aynho Park House and the church. We followed Wharf Lane down towards the canal passing over the motorway. We joined the towpath at Souldern Wharf and followed it along to Aynho Wharf. There was not much traffic on the canal today. having crossed the canal bridge and one railway line and passed under the other one we took the path alongside the embankment, followed it to pass under the motorway and reach the ford at Souldern Mill. The track through the ford was dry as it usually is at this time of year. We continued up Millers lane to Station Road and on to The Cartwright Hotel. As neither Anita nor Kay were available to provide the usual refreshments a group of us stopped at the Cartwright and took our refreshments there. We returned to the pavilion to lock up and anticipate the return of the usual providers next week.
