Recorded Music Society: January 2018 Meeting

Our January programme presented by Ian started with the appropriate theme “Winter” from Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons”. A delightful duet, soprano/contralto by Pergolesi was followed by Delius “The Walk to Paradise Gardens” and “interlude” by Tippett from the “Triple Concerto”. The choir of Trinity College Cambridge sang “The Lamb” and Mozart’s “Piano Concerto No.20” heralded a complete switch from classical to Noel Coward “Don’t Lets be Beastly to the Germans” and “A Bar on the Piccola Marina” a suitable prelude to the interval. The second half maintained the informal mood with Jacqui Dankworth & Charlie Wood singing “Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars” followed by The Beatles “I Will”, Matt Monroe rendered “Portrait of my Love” which recording reinforced the reputation he once had of being the “Singer’s Singer”.   After Peggy Lee sang “Mr Wonderful” the final recording switched back to the classical “Romance for Viola and Orchestra” by Bruch.
Thank you Ian for another excellent evening’s entertainment.
