Aynho Long Walk 29th March 2018

The rain held off for most of today’s walk, but it had worked overtime on creating mud. Only eight of us today as the holiday period arrives. We set off down Portway where the rain had worked overtime on mud production. Once into the open field we could see all the deer in the middle distance in the deer park. The next field maintained its reputation as a boot sucker, but we were soon on the way up to the entrance to Upper Aynho Grounds. Daffodils lined the drive and cheered us up. Down through the woods was very pleasant until the mud at the bottom of the valley. We continued up to Warren Farm, excited the two horses in the field before Mill Lane and continued across the ford and into the copse. From there we crossed into the village, passed the Reading Room worked round the bin men and followed the path across the fields to Charlton Road. A unanimous vote took us back along the road without the usual detour via Rainsborough Camp. Enough mud for one day was the agreed view. Back at the pavilion Kay had replaced Dawn for one week only and provided welcome coffee and cake. 5.3 miles. at 3.15 mph.
