Aynho Long Walk: 11th August 2016

It was overcast and unseasonably chilly as twelve of us set off this morning. We caught the edge of a shower as we took the Black Path, Butts Close and the stone stile across to Lower Walton Grounds. Much of the route was through wheat fields ripe and ready for harvest. The broad beans have now turned brown/black as if over ripe. We continued through the farm and up hill to the copse and began the descent towards Kings Sutton, but turned at right angles three quarters of the way to the field edge and were soon in the next field, still walking through ripe wheat up to the badgers setts at the top. We descended on the Aynho side of the ridge for a short distance and then took the path through to the old stone pits and up into Charlton village. Much of the building work that obstructed the road for so long is now complete and we were soon at the bottom of the hill and moving up again towards Rainsborough Camp. We kept to the path below it and cut up to the ridge that led us eventually to Green lane and back to the pavilion. Refreshments welcome as much as ever. marginally under 6miles.

Note: next week there will be no refreshments available. The current plan is to take coffee or an alternative at the Cartwright Hotel instead, as there is not a consensus for bring and share.
