Free Compost

Gardeners can reap the rewards of recycling at two events being hosted by South Northamptonshire Council (SNC) this May.
The council is holding free compost giveaways to promote its garden waste recycling service.
People will be able to take home a share of compost made from their own green bin contents, while stocks last.
Cllr Dermot Bambridge, SNC’s portfolio holder for environmental services, said: “Now is a great time to be planting out in time to enjoy a vibrant summer gardens. Getting nutrition right is a key part of that, and we’re here to help with these compost giveaways.
“Everything we collect via the green bin service is taken to be shredded and mixed at a site in Helmdon. There, it gets composted and in just a few months is ready to be used by farmers helping them keep the soil healthy and fertile.
“I urge gardeners to attend these events and make the most of our shared efforts recycling their garden waste.”
The giveaways will take place in Towcester and Farthinghoe where friendly staff will be on hand to answer questions about waste and recycling services and free kitchen caddies and caddy liners will also be on offer.
The compost being given away at the events will be loose, so attendees will need to bring their own bags or containers and means of transporting it.
The giveaways are taking place at the Tove Depot in Old Tiffield Road, Towcester on Saturday, 12 May; and Farthinghoe Recycling and Reuse Centre on Saturday, 19 May. Both giveaways run from 9am to 1pm and are first come, first served.
