Aynho Long Walk: 23rd January 2014

The early rain put off many walkers who travel to Aynho for the long walk. We had just two leaders and two walkers today, but we had a wonderful walk as the rain died out and most of the walk was in bright sunshine. We all wore our wellington boots as the ground was mud and water underfoot. We walked down Portway through the tunnel and across the fields to Souldern. The sheep in the fields kept well away from us.

We continued down Wash Lane, over the motorway and on to the canal. The tow path was very muddy but the view over the water meadows was beautiful with many birds enjoying the flooded fields. A lone angler fished by the moorings. We took the path back under the motorway and through to the ford at Millers Lane. We braved the ford. The stream was fast flowing but quite shallow. We arrived back at the pavilion after two and a quarter hours to find Val ready with our orders after our six and a half miles of a lovely walk.

The short walk and the track walk were better supported and they too enjoyed the resumption of service at the pavilion.
